Lorelei Baumann Capstone Theme: Passion
My life has been full of creativity. Since the day I was born, till the place I stand now, I have always had the imagination of an artist; but honestly, anyone can be an artist, as long as they aren’t afraid to express themselves. I spent the majority of my life in San Francisco California. I loved it there. It was full of crazy murals and people. The streets were lined with beautiful artworks, like the victorians and the golden gate bridge. Once elementary school came around, I attended Rooftop K-8 school; Which is one of the most famous art elementary schools in San Francisco. My most influential teacher was, Ms Louis. She was my second grade teacher that taught my class about Andy Warhol, Van Gogh, and even Georgia O'Keeffe. I think that growing up in San Francisco inspired me, and gave me so many artistic and diverse experiences, that made the artist I am today.
When I was 9 years old I moved to where I live now, Portland Oregon. Portland to me, is artsy, but in a much different way than San Francisco. Portland is more of a quite type of art, where as San Francisco is more of a “in your face” type of art. I personally believe that my style of art is more San Francisco-ey. With my love of art I decided to apply for da Vinci and fortunately I was accepted. In sixth grade my year long was ceramics, where I found my creative visual artist side. In seventh they were, Drama and choir, that year I focused more on my love of performing arts. Lastly in eighth grade, I am taking Masters Drama and Ceramics, which I am both capstoning in. Currently I am thirteen years old. I would describe myself as an outgoing individual. I definitely put my personality into my pieces. I am sort of a young kid at heart and I think this is why I make “toy like” and spunky pieces. The theme I chose was Passion; I chose this theme because I feel that it represents me. I am passionate about many thing and I wanted to show this through my art. For example, I made many animals because I am passionate about animals, etc. I represented the school theme, color, by using different glazes. I also played with colors, I glazed a bear blue and a bunny pink, which in reality these animals are not these colors. I also bought fancy glazes, like, crackle, low fire, high fire, etc. Overall I am very proud of the artwork I have created this year. Everyone has a different style of art, and this is why I think my artwork stands out, as well as my classmates styles too. I hope that I will continue my artistic love and my imagination can run wild to inspire my future pieces.
